A good flashlight is one of the most useful items you can carry every day. Power outage, basement, car breakdown, dark parking lot – a compact light solves situations where your phone’s flashlight falls short.

This comparison focuses on lights you’ll actually carry in your pocket every day – maximum compact and lightweight. For larger lights meant for home storage or bug-out bags, check out our Preparedness Flashlight Comparison.

# What Matters for EDC Lights

Size is everything: A flashlight you don’t carry is useless. Under 100 mm length and under 80 g – that’s the threshold where a light truly fits in your pocket.

Brightness (Lumens): 200–800 lumens are enough for almost every everyday situation. More important than the max output is the medium setting you’ll actually use most often.

Battery: USB-C charging is standard. The key question: is the battery replaceable? And is it a standard cell or proprietary?

Water Resistance: IPX8 (submersible) is ideal. IP68 (dustproof + submersible) is even better.

# 1. RovyVon Aurora A8 G4 – The Keychain Light

RovyVon Aurora A8 G4

RovyVon Aurora A8 G4

Ad

650-lumen keychain light with UV, red and warm white side lighting – just 17.6 g.

The A8 G4 is the smallest light in the comparison at 17.6 g and 60.5 mm – yet surprisingly capable. 650 lumens is exceptional for a keychain light. Especially practical: three side lights (UV, red, warm white) for different situations. UV detects counterfeit bills and stains, red doesn’t blind you at night.

Strengths: Extremely compact, USB-C charging, magnetic clip, three side lights. Weaknesses: Built-in battery (330 mAh), only ~1.5 h runtime on max, polycarbonate housing less robust than aluminum. No IP rating specified. Runtime: ~1.5 h (high) / ~72 h (low).

# 2. Olight Baton 4 – The Ultra-Compact

Olight Baton 4

Olight Baton 4

Ad

Ultra-compact 1,300-lumen light – only 63 mm long, magnetic charging, LED status indicator.

The Baton 4 packs 1,300 lumens into a 63 mm housing – barely larger than a thumb. Upgraded metal switch with green LED status indicator, optional charging case (5,000 mAh). The magnetic quick-charging is convenient but proprietary (no USB-C). 6 brightness levels from Moonlight (0.5 lm) to Turbo, solid clip, magnetic base.

Strengths: Extremely small for the output, magnetic charging, magnetic base, good clip. Battery (proprietary 16340) is replaceable. Weaknesses: Proprietary charging system (no standard USB-C), only Olight’s own 16340 batteries are compatible. Turbo mode steps down after a short time. Runtime: ~1.5 min Turbo / ~1.5 h (high, 300 lm) / ~30 days (Moonlight).

# 3. Acebeam Pokelit AA – The High-CRI Light

Acebeam Pokelit AA

Acebeam Pokelit AA

✓ Best ValueAd

550-lumen EDC light with CRI 90+, AA battery or rechargeable cell, IP68 – outstanding versatility.

The Pokelit AA fills a niche none of the other models cover: CRI 90+ with 5000K neutral white – meaning colors look as natural under this light as in daylight. It’s also the only light here that runs on a standard AA battery (including Ni-MH), available in any supermarket worldwide. The included rechargeable battery enables USB-C charging for daily use, while AA remains as a universal backup. 94.8 mm, 55 g, IP68, clip included.

Strengths: CRI 90+ (neutral, 5000K) – best color rendering in the comparison, AA battery + rechargeable hybrid, IP68, 550 lm, compact clip, solid build. Weaknesses: 550 lumens less than the 16340 models. 3 modes (no moonlight, no strobe). Acebeam is less well-known than Fenix or Olight. Runtime: ~1.5 h (high, 550 lm) / ~6 h (medium) / ~53 h (low). Best for: Anyone who cares about color accuracy (trades, medical, photography) or wants a light that runs on the world’s most available battery.

# 4. Fenix PD25R – The All-Rounder

Fenix PD25R

Fenix PD25R

★ Our PickAd

Compact EDC flashlight – 800 lumens, USB-C, IP68, just 67 g.

The PD25R hits the sweet spot: compact enough for a pants pocket (92 mm, 78 g), bright enough for serious situations (800 lm), with a replaceable standard 16340 battery and USB-C charging. IP68 means dustproof and water resistant. 5 modes plus strobe, tactical tail-cap switch. Also accepts CR123A disposable batteries as backup.

Strengths: Replaceable standard battery, USB-C, IP68, solid Fenix build quality, CR123A compatible. Weaknesses: 16340 batteries are less common than 18650. 800 lm is less than the competition in this size class. Runtime: ~44 min (Turbo, 800 lm) / ~3.5 h (high, 350 lm) / ~70 h (Eco, 5 lm).

# 5. Olight i3T 2 EOS – The AAA Light

Olight i3T 2 EOS

Olight i3T 2 EOS

Ad

Mini EDC light – 200 lumens, AAA battery, pocket clip, only 43 g.

The simplest light in the comparison – and that’s exactly its advantage. One AAA battery, two modes (5 lm / 200 lm), 41.8 g, done. No battery to charge, no complicated modes. AAA batteries are available anywhere. Want more output? With a 10440 Li-Ion cell, the i3T 2 delivers up to 300 lumens.

Strengths: Maximum simplicity, AAA batteries available everywhere, affordable, robust. Compact at just 89 mm. Also compatible with 10440 Li-Ion (300 lm). Weaknesses: Only 200 lumens with AAA. No USB charging. Runtime: ~22 min (high, 200 lm) / ~16 h (low, 5 lm).

# Our Recommendation

Best All-Rounder: The Fenix PD25R – compact, standard 16340 battery, USB-C, IP68, CR123A as backup. The light that fits most people in most situations.

Most Compact: The Olight Baton 4 – 1,300 lumens in 63 mm is impressive. But: proprietary charging and only Olight’s own batteries.

For the Keychain: The RovyVon A8 G4 – so small you forget it’s there. UV and red light as a bonus.

Best Color Rendering: The Acebeam Pokelit AA – CRI 90+, AA batteries available everywhere, IP68, ~$36. The right choice for anyone who cares about color accuracy or doesn’t want to charge batteries.

Maximum Simplicity: The Olight i3T 2 – one AAA battery, two modes, done.

# Frequently Asked Questions

How many lumens do I actually need?

For everyday use (keyhole, basement, parking lot) 200–500 lumens are plenty. Turbo modes above 1,000 lumens are designed for short bursts and drain the battery in just a few minutes.

Proprietary vs. standard battery – what does it mean?

With standard batteries (e.g. 18650, 16340), you can use cells from any manufacturer. With proprietary batteries (e.g. Olight), only the manufacturer’s own cells fit. Standard is more flexible, cheaper, and more future-proof.

What's the difference between IPX8 and IP68?

IPX8 means submersible but not dustproof. IP68 is both dustproof (6) and submersible (8). For everyday use, both are sufficient.
